White in Interior Design

Yes, the 7th color in the rainbow spectrum is indigo, but since indigo is very close to blue, I decided to write about one of the most complicated colors – white. The white color is attractive with its ease, impeccable cleanliness and effectiveness. White in the interior is always good. It gives a lot of opportunities not only for decorating, but also to change the space, visually expanding its borders and increasing the area.

Classy White in Your Home Interior

Speaking about white, we’re usually not taking into account the multiple varieties of this color. White has many shades and nuances: ivory, color of baked milk, natural cotton and linen, pearl color, snow and cream. White serves as a perfect backdrop for different shades of coffee, terracotta and wood. These combinations create a cozy and warm atmosphere in the house and give the interior special nobility.

Probably the best thing about white is that it looks as good with any color, as it does by itself, which is why I won’t retell again about its combination with previously discussed colors. However, white (without any additional color) is rarely used in solo, only if the area is large.

The use of different textures and materials is very important when using white. A combination of smooth and rough, glossy and mat surfaces, the combination of air and light fabrics, contrasts of cold and warm materials give the interior some special charm.

Lovers of romance will adore pastel colored soft, flowing fabrics on the windows. If you prefer warm colors, you’ll love the ethnic styled interior with cream and white furniture. Additional accents can be added with bamboo curtains, floating candles, transparent red curtains and etc.

White with the colors cream or coffee with milk with black accessories create a romance and relaxed atmosphere after a hard day. This combination is ideal for bathrooms and bedrooms. The lighting must be local (small lamps and candles).

Do not hesitate to use white in combination with grey. Even though this mix might seem too cold, it actually looks very aristocratic and elegant. I especially admire the barely noticeable thin line, where either white transfers into grey or grey transfers into white.

Black-and-white interior is an option for the courageous ones. This is the most contrast combination of all possible. But in general, the combination of white and black creates a positive, dynamic impression, as the alternation of day and night, light and darkness. Approaches of this kind are always considered stylish and modern. You can paint the ceiling and the floor into white – it will be like walking on air, relying on the black objects.

Openwork patterns will look very elegant in a black and white room. But the most incredible pattern in a black and white interior is the chess-board style. Broken into squares space creates a feeling of unreality and enchantment.

In such interiors it is important to keep a balance of black and white, as one of the necessary conditions of harmony. Follow the principle of «Yin and Yang»: in a white corner there should be a black chair, and on a black veil must be a white pillow.
